WE DO!
We love spaces and places and moments that inspire, enthrall, and stir, causing us to loosen our grip on schedules, on the next place to be, or on the next thing to do, and for a few blissful, delicious moments, we breathe. It turns out these spaces and places and moments have a name: thin places.
THIN PLACES: WHAT THEY DO
The old ancients used to say heaven and earth were three feet apart. When you find yourself in the middle of a thin place, you realize the distance between the divine and you has collapsed. In that disorienting moment, you realize life is no longer revolving around you as if you are the center of everything. You might find some peace; you might find a spiritual breakthrough. Regardless, you’ll definitely be jolted out of old bearings and ways of thinking, and, if you tarry, you might find some new paths and ways of being you.
UPPER ROOM AS A THIN PLACE
We get it; we’re a church. We sing; we preach; we pray; we drink lots of coffee together. Sometimes we do all these things really well and with spirit. But that is not what we are up to because we know we can do all these things while the space between heaven and us remains thick and dense. What we are up to in every thing we do is cooperating with the Spirit of Living God who is seeking to collapse the space between God and us. We use various elements such as art, silence, conversation, scripture, prayers, hikes, and pilgrimages for you to discover the transformative and disorienting power when the distance between you and Living God has become very thin.
